Dear family of the late Doctor Foster,
Greetings from Mukinge Hospital, Zambia.
We praise God for the life of Doctor Foster, and the many skills and abilities that he had.
When i came to Mukinge In 1968 he was referred to by the people as Ba Kahaya. This was a great honour, as there had been a respected traditional doctor of the Kaonde people by this name, and now they had a doctor with greater power.
There are few here now who actually knew Doctor Foster as like him, they are now with the Lord.
Mukinge Hospital was built in 1953. It was a great joy to meet him and his wife Belva, with other older missionaries in 2003 to celebrate the 50th Jubilee anniversary of the hospital.
Doctor Foster recalled the incredible story of building the hospital.Of getting supplies 300 miles away. Of driving there by truck on dirt roads after doing surgery. And shared miracles of how God moved government officials to supply equipment.
His book, "Sword and Scalpel" continues to be read by new missionaries. It always moves myself to tears when i read it .It records the incredible story of how God sustained his parents here at Mukinge and enabled them to translate the Kaonde Bible, which remains in great demand today.
When the Evangelical Church celebrated its centenary in August 2010, we would loved to have had Doctor Foster present. He was unable, but we praise God that he and his wife that same month, were strengthened to return to Africa, and live his remaining days in Angola.
To God be the Glory,
Janet Matthews
